Ticket Analysis: Finding Doc Gaps from Support Data

January 28, 2026 ยท 5 min read

Your support tickets are a goldmine of information about what your documentation is missing. Every ticket is a signal: someone tried to find an answer in your docs, failed, and contacted support instead.

The problem is scale. You might get hundreds or thousands of tickets per month. Manually reading through them to identify documentation gaps is impractical. That's where AI-powered Ticket Analysis comes in.

The Insight Loop

Great documentation teams run a continuous improvement loop:

  1. Analyze โ€” identify common ticket topics and doc gaps
  2. Create โ€” write articles addressing the most common issues
  3. Measure โ€” track whether ticket volume decreases for those topics
  4. Repeat โ€” analyze again, find the next set of gaps

FinalDoc's Ticket Analysis automates step 1 โ€” the most time-consuming part.

How It Works

Connect Your Helpdesk

FinalDoc integrates with major ITSM platforms:

Configure in Settings โ†’ Integrations โ†’ Chat & Support. Enter your credentials and select the ticket queue to analyze.

AI Analysis

Once connected, Ticket Analysis:

  1. Fetches recent tickets (configurable: last 7/30/90 days)
  2. Clusters tickets by topic using AI โ€” grouping "can't login," "password doesn't work," and "authentication error" as the same issue
  3. Cross-references ticket topics with your existing documentation
  4. Identifies three categories:
    • Documented but high-ticket โ€” your article exists but isn't solving the problem (needs improvement)
    • Undocumented โ€” no article exists for this topic (needs creation)
    • Well-deflected โ€” low ticket volume, good doc coverage (your successes)

Actionable Output

The analysis produces a prioritized list of documentation actions:

TopicTickets/MonthDoc StatusAction
Password reset142Exists (score: 45)Improve article
API rate limits89Not documentedCreate article
Billing questions76Exists (score: 72)Add FAQ section
SSO setup45Not documentedCreate article
Export data38Exists (score: 88)No action needed

Auto-Draft from Gaps

For undocumented topics, FinalDoc can auto-generate a draft article. The AI uses the ticket content to understand what users are asking, then generates a structured article that addresses the common questions.

These drafts appear in your Documentation page with "DRAFT" status. Your writers review, edit, and publish. The heavy lifting โ€” understanding what needs to be written and creating a first draft โ€” is already done.

Measuring Impact

After publishing new or improved articles, run Ticket Analysis again after 30 days. Compare ticket volumes for the same topics. You should see a measurable decrease in tickets for topics you documented.

This creates a clear ROI story for your documentation team: "We reduced password reset tickets by 60% by improving one article." That's a metric leadership understands.

Pricing

Ticket Analysis is available on Business and Enterprise plans. Each analysis run costs 10 AI credits. Business plans include 10,000 credits/month โ€” enough for 1,000 analysis runs.
